Rose rocks a pair of jeans and a Ramones T while attending the Tribute to Johnny Ramone event at the Forever Hollywood Cemetery in Los Angeles on August 1. Johnny Ramone was a dear friend of Rose’s and she is still close to his widow, Linda Ramone (also photographed).
I have updated the gallery with various photoshoot additions. There are some exceptionally awesome goodies in here, including the new EW photoshoot as well as an unknown one dating back to 2007. I had never seen it before and nearly fainted when Mariana sent it in. Thanks again, Mariana! If anyone knows the magazine source for it, please let us know!

CS/SHH!: What drew you both to the character of Red Sonja?
Rose McGowan: Well, I thought Red Sonja was incredibly badass. The studio brought me the script. I got really excited about it. I’d been getting such boring scripts and after doing Cherry in Planet Terror, I was really in a quite a deep depression — I’m not going to lie — at least workwise. I came home and said, “I really want to do this movie. It’s kind of great. Look at these comic books, you ever heard of this person? This is insane!” And then…
Rose McGowan says she can’t wait to wear the chain mail bikini of Red Sonja, the barbarian queen. Why? “The suffragettes would have loved her. She would only be with a man if he had bested her with the sword first. That was a pretty feminist statement … well, as far as comic books go back then.”
McGowan said she had a “very depressing year” seeking a challenging, nuanced role in Hollywood when most movies present women “not even as straight man, they’re the straight man to the straight man.” When a script came her way reviving the Marvel Comics character who first appeared in “Conan the Barbarian” under writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith (drawing, of course, on the work of pulp icon Robert E. Howard) she was intrigued. She showed it to her boyfriend, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, and asked if he had ever heard of the character.
Luckily G4 put up the interview they aired of Miss Rose from Comic-Con, in it she states that Red Sonja will begin filming at the end of September and next week she begins training about 4-5 hours a day. She will be learning sword fighting, trick horse riding, free running, acrobatics and more. “Pretty much I’ll be able to control the universe on my horse when I’m done.” she joked. When asked about Barbarella, Robert says they had to push that back because he’s working on something else (which is why he will not be directing Red Sonja), but this one came in. So who knows, while I see it unlikely Barbarella will ever really get a chance again you honestly never know! Check out the whole interview below (HQ version here). Captures coming up shortly.
